Championship Weekend Predictions

S. Carolina vs Baby Gators

The two schools who weren't good enough to play in the SEC Championship play for the prized ACC Title in Charlotte.  The Baby Gators seemed redeemed as they punished the overrated Seminoles to propel themselves as the media darlings of the week.  But on sidelines the Ole Head Ball Coach proved his mastery by playing his backup QB in the beat down of Clemson in the fake Death Valley.  When questioned about his decision to go with the backup Spurrier responded "this wasn't a SEC game so we didn't see a need to go with our starter!"  Spurrier instead acknowledged the importance of the ACC Championship and a second chance for redemption against his Alma Mater!  In the first match up Spurrier's D was up to the task by shutting down Driskel and the Baby Gator O..but unfortunately the Gamecocks turned the ball over 6 times and were out of the game before it started.  Look for Spurrier to get revenge as the Baby Gators are buying into their own hype.

Alabama vs Georgia

Finally...the SEC & defacto National Championship game!  Lets keep it simple..both teams are mirror images of one another.  Pundits believe Georgia has more NFL ready talent and therefore is prime for unseeding the Crimson Tide.  Vegas has it's money on the Sabanator due to his reputation for producing in these situations...and Georgia's reputation for flopping.  Bama has the advantage on the O Line and LBs, Georgia in the D- Line and DBs.  Aaron Murray is the most efficient QB in the country but has failed in the limelight of big games, AJ McCarron has been just as efficient and has delivered in similar circumstances!!  Alabama is more disciplined and tends to not turn the ball over, Georgia is undisciplined and regularly turns the ball over.  Then finally...coaching.... Saban vs Richt... I'll let you guys figure that one out!  Make no mistake this game is being won now in terms of preparation!!  Bama wins this game due to their discipline, championship experience, and their mindset!!

One of the toughest questions this year is who is going to win the Alabama/Georgia game. This game is rough to predict because both teams have great qualities. Georgia probably has more NFL prospects on its roster than any team in the country, a quarterback who is rated the most proficient in college football, good running backs, and a great defense. Alabama has numerous great athletes, AJ McCarron at quarterback, rated 2nd only to Georgia's Aaron Murray, a good offensive and defensive line, and a great coach. I'm not saying that Richt is not a good coach, just at this time not a great coach. And therein lies most of the difference. Saban's teams are always talented and disciplined while Richt's teams are overly talented but not so disciplined. When you have a lot of big egos on a team, they seem to get in each others' way. If the head coach doesn't contain them, they can ruin a good team. It is my feeling that Saban makes it well known to his players that football at Alabama is a team sport. Richt not so much.
It has also been my experience in athletics, that when you play top quality opponents, you pay mostly with small mistakes. Mistakes that you could afford with a lesser opponent. But when you play quality, they will capitalize on every little error that you make. For this very reason, I am giving Alabama the nod. Georgia is more prone to turnovers and penalties and Alabama will make them pay for their misdeeds. Also, Saban having been a defensive player, is more likely to spot minor flaws in players and turn them into points.

All this being said, it is nowhere near a slam dunk for Alabama. One of the things about talented teams is that when they get on a roll, they are hard to stop. If Georgia catches a wave of good fortune in the early part of the game, and should happen to play an uncharacteristic disciplined game, it could be a tough outing for Alabama. Georgia will feed on itself and its home crowd and ride that wave to the championship game. The thing about Georgia is you never know what team is going to show up. The extremely talented one, or the one that looks like it is having a hangover from last night's party. This Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde personality could be a problem if Georgia were to play in the National Championship. They could win big or lose big, and with the latter, it would be a complete embarrassment for the SEC. It's almost like betting on a race horse; cause it's never a sure thing. That's why Alabama has to win this game and I'm giving them my endorsement. We cannot have a national embarrassment coming out of the SEC. Alabama 31-Georgia 24.

As a side note, this BCS is a real joke. There are five SEC teams that should be in a playoff to determine the National Champion. I believe there are seven that could beat Notre Dame. Winning ball games against second tier teams doesn't prepare you for a national showdown. However, fairness always takes a back seat to money. Diddy Joe
